06/23/2025 Out with the old and in with the new! Say goodbye to the old eligibility rules and usher in the lifetime language rules.
Let’s rewind… Before June 23, 2025 you were able to “churn” this card every 48 months. That means you were able to get this awesome card multiple times and get the sign up bonus points each time. All you had to do was downgrade this card to a no annual fee card and wait a week and re-apply.
Basically, if you opened the card in March of 2020 and made the spend requirements by April 2020 you would be eligible again April of 2024 to receive the sign up points again.
BUT…
Now, they instituted a new rule where you can only have this card once, but you can now get the sign up points for both the preferred and reserve varieties of these sapphire cards.
Both cards have an increased sign-up bonus currently and unfortunately the Chase Sapphire Reserve has a hefty fee of $795, previously $550.
This hefty fee does give you perks to chase sapphire lounges, priority pass lounges, TSA and global entry credit, and a $300 dollar annual travel credit to use in the Chase Travel portal. So you can see that if you utilize the credit you can really lower the annual fee.
It’s sad that Chase did this change because it seems like it will not be as easy to accumulate these points because of the once in lifetime language rule. This rule is not foreign because it is used by another card issuer American Express.
Here at the cards, I am speaking on:

Impression:
Seems like lots of coupons that you’ll need to go out of your way to use in order to cap their promised “$2700 Value” for the Chase Reserve card but may be a card you get for the first year and downgrade later for the large signup bonus.
The preferred version is still the best travel card out there because of the transfer hotels and airlines, so overall pretty solid for your everyday card to get you points for travel!
Apply Here! If you feel like one of these cards will help you on your travels feel free to apply via my refer a friend link where ill get a small reward if you are approved.

Thank you for reading and
Travel on!
